In a major push towards renewable energy adoption, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, on Tuesday launched Odisha’s first-ever ‘Solar Rath’ — a first-of-its-kind mobile awareness initiative aimed at promoting rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

The initiative is designed to take awareness about rooftop solar directly to households across Central Odisha, making information on clean energy solutions, government subsidies and application procedures more accessible to consumers.

The Solar Rath was flagged off at the Power Distribution Technology Centre (PDTC), Bhubaneswar, by Gajanan S. Kale, Chief of Odisha Distribution Business and CEO, TPCODL, and Himal Tewari, CHRO & Chief Sustainability & CSR, Tata Power, in the presence of the company's senior leadership team.

As part of the campaign, specially designed Solar Rath vehicles will travel across the Puri and Dhenkanal regions, spreading awareness about rooftop solar and the benefits of the Centre's flagship PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The campaign also introduces ‘Solar Sanga’, a dedicated outreach ambassador who will educate consumers on rooftop solar solutions, including the 1 kW ULA Model, while explaining central and state government subsidies, eligibility criteria and the application process.

By reaching villages, marketplaces and prominent public locations, the campaign aims to simplify access to reliable information on rooftop solar, enabling households to lower electricity bills, generate clean energy and contribute to a sustainable future.

Speaking on the occasion, Gajanan S. Kale, Chief of Odisha Distribution Business and CEO, TPCODL said, "The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a transformative initiative that empowers consumers to generate their own clean energy while reducing electricity costs. Through Odisha's first Solar Rath, we are taking awareness directly to people's doorsteps, helping them understand the benefits of rooftop solar and the ease of availing government support. At TPCODL, we remain committed to enabling a greener and more sustainable energy future by encouraging greater adoption of renewable energy across our distribution area."

The initiative underscores TPCODL's commitment to strengthening consumer engagement while supporting the Government of India's vision of expanding renewable energy adoption. Through sustained community interactions and awareness programmes, the company aims to accelerate rooftop solar penetration and contribute to building a cleaner, energy-secure Odisha.
