In a significant push towards a cleaner, greener and more
energy-secure future, Jagatsinghpur has stepped up its campaign to bring the
benefits of rooftop solar closer to households. The Solar Rath of TP Central
Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) was flagged off from the Office of the
District Collector, marking a fresh grassroots initiative to accelerate
awareness and adoption of rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The Solar Rath was flagged of by Jagatsinghpur Collector
& District Magistrate J. Sonal, in the presence of senior TPCODL officials.
The specially deployed awareness vehicle will travel across the district,
including the selected Model Solar Villages, taking information on rooftop
solar directly to citizens and helping households understand the benefits,
eligibility requirements, government subsidies and installation process
associated with the scheme.
As part of the campaign, the ‘Solar Sanga’ team will engage
directly with consumers and provide on-the-spot guidance, enabling residents to
make informed decisions about adopting solar energy for their homes. The
initiative is expected to strengthen last-mile awareness and encourage greater
participation in the government’s ambitious rooftop solar programme.
The campaign assumes added significance with the District
Level Committee (DLC), chaired by the Collector, having selected 10 villages to
participate in the Model Solar Village Competition under the PM Surya Ghar
scheme. Over a 90-day period, the participating villages will compete to
achieve the highest number of rooftop solar installations. The winning village
will become eligible for ₹1 crore in Central Financial Assistance as a
Renewable Energy Development Grant, creating a
strong incentive for collective community participation in the transition
towards clean energy.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector J. Sonal, said, “The Solar Rath will carry awareness about rooftop solar directly to the people and enable more households to benefit from the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This initiative will strengthen renewable energy adoption and support sustainable development across Jagatsinghpur.”
TPCODL, a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has been undertaking a range of initiatives to expand awareness and access to renewable energy across its distribution area. Through programmes such as “Mo Chhata, Mo Sanchaya”, Gram Sabha outreach programmes and the Solar Rath campaign, the company is working to make clean, affordable and sustainable solar power more accessible to households.
