In a significant push towards green employment and sustainable livelihoods, TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), in collaboration with the Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI), has felicitated 120 rural youth who successfully completed the first phase of its Green Jobs Training Programme.

The initiative, undertaken as part of TPNODL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, aims to equip rural youth with industry-relevant technical skills and improve their employability in the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector.

The first phase comprised eight batches covering two trades — Solar Supervisor and Solar Helper/Assistant Technician. The trainees underwent practical, industry-oriented training and were awarded certificates issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India.

The programme seeks to bridge the skill gap in the solar energy sector while creating new livelihood opportunities for young people in northern Odisha, enabling them to participate in the country’s transition towards clean energy.

At a special felicitation ceremony, the trainees received their certificates from TPNODL Chief Executive Officer Dushyant Kumar Tyagi, Chief – Operation Services Nilesh Potphode, Chief – Projects Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, Chief Engineer – Solarization Rajib Kumar Nayak and Head – CSR Ranjan Sharma, in the presence of other officials from TPNODL and TPSDI.

Congratulating the trainees, the company’s leadership encouraged them to utilise their newly acquired skills to pursue career opportunities in the renewable energy sector and contribute to the development of their communities.

Speaking on the occasion, CEO Tyagi said, “As the clean energy sector grows, equipping rural youth with relevant skills is essential to helping them access emerging opportunities. Through our green jobs and vocational training initiatives, we aim to strengthen employability and support sustainable livelihoods, enabling young people to contribute to their communities and to the development of Odisha and the nation at large.”

In addition to its specialised green jobs programme, TPNODL operates six Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) at Baleshwar, Jajpur, Kendujhar, Kaptipada, Bahalda and Chadheipahadi within its licensed area. These centres provide employment-oriented training to strengthen local skills, enhance employability and promote entrepreneurship.

More than 4,300 individuals have received skill development training through the vocational centres so far. While several beneficiaries have secured employment across different sectors, others have set up their own businesses and outlets in their respective communities, contributing to local economic activity.

The green jobs programme and vocational training centres form part of TPNODL’s continuing CSR efforts to promote inclusive skill development and expand livelihood opportunities across its licensed areas.

By aligning vocational training with emerging industry requirements, the company aims to prepare rural youth for employment and entrepreneurship, particularly in promising sectors such as renewable energy, while supporting the broader goals of sustainable development in Odisha.
