BALASORE, APRIL 17, 2026

TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) has stepped up efforts to strengthen its power distribution infrastructure, aiming to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar districts during the peak summer season.

With rising temperatures and the looming threat of Kalbaisakhi (nor’wester) storms, the utility is implementing an extensive preventive maintenance and monitoring strategy to manage an anticipated peak demand of 1,805 MW.

As part of its infrastructure modernisation drive, TPNODL is deploying advanced diagnostic technologies such as infrared thermography, health indexing, drone-based aerial inspections and ultrasound scanning to detect and address potential faults before they escalate. These measures are being executed under a large-scale maintenance programme covering 913 11-kV feeders and 113 33-kV feeders.

The initiative also includes the systematic overhaul of 567 power transformers, maintenance of more than 13,000 distribution transformers (63 kVA and above), and upgradation of conductors spanning 14.9 circuit km of 33-kV lines and 78.7 circuit km of 11-kV lines. These upgrades are expected to significantly enhance network stability and improve overall power reliability.

To support these operations, over 7,000 personnel — including TPNODL staff and associated workforce — have been deployed to ensure round-the-clock monitoring and swift response to outages. The company has also positioned critical equipment reserves at divisional levels to enable rapid restoration in case of disruptions.

Special emphasis is being placed on maintaining uninterrupted power supply to essential services such as District Headquarters Hospitals and Community Health Centres, in coordination with the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority.

Speaking on the initiative, Gajanan Kale, Chief – Odisha Distribution Business and CEO, TPNODL, said the company’s focus on reliable power supply is a continuous commitment rather than a seasonal response. He noted that the integration of advanced technologies and rigorous maintenance protocols has strengthened the network’s capacity to handle rising demand while ensuring safety and service quality.

Beyond infrastructure readiness, TPNODL has urged consumers to play an active role in maintaining grid stability. It has advised users to accurately declare their connected load in line with actual electricity usage to avoid unnecessary stress on the network. Reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on power theft — a key contributor to voltage fluctuations and outages — the company has encouraged citizens to report any irregularities in their areas.

Consumers can seek assistance or report emergencies through the 24/7 toll-free helpline numbers 1800-3456-718 or 1912.

With this multi-pronged approach, TPNODL is transitioning from conventional maintenance practices to a more resilient, technology-driven utility model — aimed at delivering reliable and sustainable power to meet the growing demands of Northern Odisha.
