BALESHWAR, SEPTEMBER 9, 2026

TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, on Wednesday launched its ‘Solar Rath’ campaign here to step up public awareness and accelerate adoption of rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

The mobile outreach vehicle was flagged off by Baleshwar Collector and District Magistrate Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas at the Collectorate in the presence of TPNODL Chief Executive Officer Dushyant Kumar Tyagi, Superintending Engineer, Baleshwar Electrical Circle, Sidhartha Roy, senior officials of the power utility and regional stakeholders.

The Solar Rath will travel across rural communities, commercial marketplaces and prominent public hubs in Northern Odisha to educate consumers about rooftop solar and provide on-ground assistance.

Through its outreach teams, TPNODL will offer guidance on government financial subsidies, eligibility criteria, application procedures and suitable technical solutions, including the 1 kW Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model aimed at making residential solar adoption simpler.

The launch comes as TPNODL has crossed a significant milestone of 50,000 rooftop solar installations across its five-district service area, with cumulative installations reaching 51,799.

Baleshwar has emerged as the leading district in Odisha in terms of solar adoption, accounting for 18,925 installations, while Mayurbhanj has recorded 11,083 installations, followed by Jajpur with 9,475, Bhadrak with 6,573 and Keonjhar with 5,743 installations.

At the state level, rooftop solar installations in Odisha have crossed the two-lakh mark, placing the state seventh nationally under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana initiative.

Commending the achievement, Collector Vikas highlighted TPNODL’s contribution towards positioning Baleshwar as Odisha’s leading solar district and urged residents to make use of government subsidies to reduce their energy expenses while contributing to environmental sustainability.

Tyagi said crossing the 50,000-installation milestone reflected growing consumer confidence in renewable energy.

The Solar Rath initiative will further strengthen grassroots engagement and help extend access to clean and affordable power across Northern Odisha, he added.

Consumers seeking information or assistance regarding rooftop solar applications and installations can approach their local electrical office or contact TPNODL’s customer care toll-free numbers 1800-3456-718 or 1912.
