TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has recorded remarkable growth in rooftop solar adoption across Northern Odisha during the first quarter (Q1) of FY 2026–27 (FY27). Driven by the Central Government's PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and the pioneering Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model, the utility facilitated 18,415 new rooftop solar installations, adding 36.18 MW of green energy capacity between April and June 2026. With this addition, TPNODL's cumulative rooftop solar capacity has reached 90.25 MW.

The impressive growth reflects the increasing preference for clean and sustainable energy among residential consumers. Monthly installations showed consistent upward momentum throughout the quarter, rising from 4,512 installations in April to 6,233 in May, before reaching 7,670 in June.

Of the 36.18 MW added during the quarter, 26 MW came from 8,235 installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, while the remaining 10.18 MW was contributed through 10,180 installations under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model. This dual-model approach has significantly simplified access to rooftop solar, enabling greater participation across diverse socio-economic segments.

All five operational circles under TPNODL registered strong performance during the quarter. Baleshwar Circle led the region with 6,449 installations, adding 13 MW of capacity. Baripada Circle followed with 3,939 installations contributing 7 MW, while Jajpur Circle recorded 3,293 installations with 7.46 MW of added capacity. Bhadrak Circle achieved 2,702 installations totalling 4.6 MW, and Kendujhar Circle registered 2,032 installations, contributing 4.12 MW.

The rapid expansion of rooftop solar has also translated into substantial financial savings for consumers. In June 2026, 10,715 consumers across TPNODL's distribution areas recorded Zero-Unit Billing, effectively eliminating their monthly electricity bills.

Baleshwar accounted for the highest number of zero-bill consumers at 4,042, followed by Baripada (2,628), Jajpur (1,496), Kendujhar (1,466) and Bhadrak (1,083).

In addition, 9,328 consumers reduced their electricity bills by more than 50 percent during the same period. Baleshwar again led with 3,221 consumers, followed by Jajpur (1,914), Baripada (1,684), Bhadrak (1,421) and Kendujhar (1,088), underscoring the tangible economic benefits of residential rooftop solar systems.
