Reinforcing its
commitment to workplace safety, occupational health and environmental
responsibility, TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) has secured
Gold Category recognition with a 4-Star Rating at the World Safety Organization
(WSO) India State-Level Occupational Health, Safety & Environment
(OHS&E) Awards 2026. The recognition acknowledges the company’s sustained
focus on strengthening safety standards, mitigating operational risks and
promoting a safety-first culture across its electricity distribution network in
northern Odisha.
The award, conferred
for the Assessment Year 2025, follows an onsite assessment and evaluation by
the WSO jury, which examined the company’s occupational health, safety and
environmental practices. The recognition highlights TPNODL’s continued efforts
to integrate safety measures into its day-to-day operations and reinforce
adherence to established safety protocols. On behalf of TPNODL, the award was
received by Tapan Patra, HoD – Safety, along with Rajesh Kumar Mohanta,
Assistant Executive Engineer, and Dilu Rout at a special event held in Mumbai.
The assessment
covered TPNODL’s electricity distribution operations across five districts of
Odisha — Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj — with particular
emphasis on workplace risk management, compliance with prescribed safety
procedures and their effective implementation by employees and business
associates. The evaluation underscored the importance of maintaining consistent
safety practices across operational sites and ensuring that safety remains an
integral part of every work-related activity.
Recognising the
inherent risks associated with electricity distribution, TPNODL follows a
comprehensive safety approach centred on the early identification of hazards,
strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), the appropriate use
of personal protective equipment (PPE), regular workforce training and
emergency preparedness. These preventive measures are aimed at minimising
workplace incidents, safeguarding employees and business associates, and
ensuring the reliable and uninterrupted delivery of electricity to consumers
across its operational areas.
Commenting on the
achievement, Dushyant Kumar Tyagi, Chief Executive Officer, TPNODL, said,
“Safety is a shared responsibility that must guide every task and decision. Our
focus is on ensuring that employees and business associates identify risks
before work begins, follow prescribed safeguards and report unsafe conditions.
This recognition reinforces our responsibility to sustain these practices and
continually improve how we protect our workforce and the communities we serve.”
Beyond workplace safety, TPNODL also undertakes public awareness initiatives to promote a better understanding of electrical hazards and encourage safe practices among consumers and communities. Through community engagement programmes, consumer communication and seasonal safety campaigns, the company seeks to educate people about the safe use of electricity and the precautions necessary to prevent electrical accidents. These initiatives pay particular attention to risks associated with everyday electricity consumption, festivals and adverse weather conditions, while encouraging the timely reporting of hazardous situations to help prevent mishaps.
The recognition further strengthens TPNODL’s resolve to continually enhance its safety framework through proactive risk prevention, employee well-being initiatives, capacity building and continuous process improvement. By fostering a culture of accountability and vigilance among its workforce and business associates, the company remains committed to maintaining high standards of occupational health, safety and environmental management while contributing to safer workplaces and communities across northern Odisha.
