Achieves 57,282 cumulative installations, with a record 9,849 installations in August 2026

Western Odisha is witnessing a strong surge in rooftop solar adoption, with TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) crossing the landmark of 50,000 rooftop solar installations and taking its cumulative installations to 57,282 across its nine-district revenue area. The achievement underscores the growing consumer acceptance of clean energy and marks a significant step in the region’s transition towards a greener and more sustainable energy future.

The milestone has been achieved through the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and TPWODL’s ULA Model, reflecting the company’s efforts to make rooftop solar more accessible, affordable and reliable for consumers across Western Odisha.

The momentum was particularly strong in August 2026, when TPWODL recorded 9,849 rooftop solar installations, its highest-ever monthly performance. This surpassed the previous monthly record of 8,298 installations, achieved in July 2026. The sharp month-on-month growth highlights the rapidly increasing interest in rooftop solar among households and reflects growing consumer confidence in renewable energy solutions.

Commenting on the milestone, Parveen Verma, Chief Executive Officer, TPWODL, said, “Crossing 50,000 rooftop solar installations is a significant milestone in Western Odisha’s clean energy journey. Our record monthly performance reflects growing consumer confidence in rooftop solar and the impact of making clean energy more accessible and affordable. We remain committed to enabling more households to participate in India’s clean energy transition.”

Bargarh and Nuapada have emerged as the leading contributors to TPWODL’s rooftop solar drive, recording 10,634 and 10,457 installations, respectively. They are followed by Sundargarh with 7,856, Balangir with 7,577, Sambalpur with 6,574, Kalahandi with 6,529, Sonepur with 3,529, Jharsuguda with 3,148, and Deogarh with 978 installations. Together, these figures take TPWODL’s cumulative rooftop solar installations to 57,282 across the nine districts.

Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, eligible consumers can avail themselves of financial assistance from the Central and State Governments for rooftop solar installations. A 3 kW rooftop solar system, costing approximately ₹2 lakh, can attract financial assistance of up to ₹1.38 lakh, while a 2 kW system, costing approximately ₹1.40 lakh, can receive assistance of up to ₹1.10 lakh. The financial support substantially reduces the upfront investment for consumers and is helping drive wider adoption of rooftop solar.

Further expanding access to clean energy, TPWODL has introduced its 1 kW ULA Model, under which eligible households can install rooftop solar by paying just ₹1,875. TPWODL manages the complete installation process and provides a five-year warranty on equipment along with a 25-year performance warranty on solar panels, offering consumers greater reliability and hassle-free operation.

TPWODL, a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, is responsible for electricity distribution and retail supply across western Odisha, serving more than 2 million consumers across nine districts and covering a distribution area of approximately 48,000 square kilometres.
