Reinforcing its commitment to expanding clean energy access
across Western Odisha, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) has
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda,
for the implementation of rooftop solar projects under the Utility-Led
Aggregation (ULA) Model of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The partnership leverages Vedanta Aluminium’s Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR) funding to eliminate upfront costs for rural
families. In Phase I, 414 households across villages near Vedanta’s operational
area in Jharsuguda will be solarised, with a long-term vision of extending the
initiative to thousands of eligible families across the district.
The MoU was signed on Wednesday by Mohit Jain, CFO &
Chief Regulatory Affairs, TPWODL, and C. Chandru, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium,
Jharsuguda, in the presence of Kunal Motiram Chavan, District Magistrate and
Collector, Jharsuguda, along with senior officials from both organisations at
the Collectorate, Jharsuguda.
The initiative is aimed at accelerating rooftop solar
adoption among lower-income households in villages surrounding Vedanta
Aluminium’s operational area. Through financial support provided under Vedanta
Aluminium’s CSR programme, eligible families will receive assistance towards
their beneficiary contribution under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, making rooftop
solar systems more accessible and affordable.
Appreciating the collaborative milestone, Jharsuguda District
Magistrate & Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan said, "The Jharsuguda
district administration encourages industries to actively support renewable
energy adoption and community development. Initiatives like this help extend
the benefits of clean and affordable energy to rural households while
contributing to a greener and more sustainable future. This initiative under PM
Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a meaningful step towards rural empowerment
and sustainable development."
Commending the partnership, TPWODL CEO Parveen Verma said,
“TPWODL is committed to making the benefits of solar energy accessible to every
section of society. This partnership with Vedanta Aluminium is an important
step towards empowering rural households with affordable and clean energy
solutions. Through the ULA model, we are simplifying rooftop solar adoption and
supporting the vision of a sustainable and energy-secure future for Western
Odisha."
Under Phase I, a total of 414 eligible consumers have been identified across eight villages in Jharsuguda district — Bhurkhamunda, Banjari, Brundamal, Chituapada, Katikela, Kurebaga, Siriapali and Sunarimunda. Following the successful implementation of the initial phase, TPWODL and Vedanta Aluminium have committed to scaling up the initiative. Both organisations have established a clear roadmap for Phase II, which will expand the project’s reach to cover additional eligible beneficiaries across the region.
The partnership marks another significant milestone in TPWODL’s efforts to promote renewable energy adoption and support the effective implementation of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana across Western Odisha, paving the way for greater energy access, sustainability and rural empowerment.
