JHARSUGUDA, APRIL 4, 2026

Reinforcing its commitment to community healthcare and child wellbeing, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, organized a comprehensive awareness and deworming drive at Puruna Basti High School in collaboration with the District Health Department, Jharsuguda. The initiative benefitted more than 350 students aged between 10 and 16 years, sensitizing them on the importance of hygiene, nutrition, and preventive healthcare.

The programme focused on educating students about the significance of periodic deworming in preventing parasitic infections that can lead to anaemia, malnutrition, and impaired cognitive development. By addressing these health concerns at an early stage, the initiative aims to support healthier growth and improved learning outcomes among school children.

The drive was conducted in the presence of Dr. Durjaya Dutta, Additional District Public Health Officer (Family Welfare), Jharsuguda, and Aswini Mahanand, Deputy Manager, Reproductive and Child Health, Jharsuguda, along with school authorities and health officials.

Sharing his views on the initiative, C. Chandru, CEO, Vedanta Jharsuguda, said: “For us, the well-being of our communities, especially children, is a priority. Through initiatives like these, we aim to improve access to healthcare for young minds and contribute to building a healthier, more resilient future. We will continue to work closely with the government to advance preventive healthcare and holistic wellness across the region.”

Dr. Durjaya Dutta highlighted that parasitic infections often remain undetected yet significantly impact a child’s nutrition, growth, and overall development. He noted that collaborative public health initiatives such as this play a crucial role in safeguarding children’s wellbeing and acknowledged Vedanta’s support in making community health programmes more effective and far-reaching.

The programme forms part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader healthcare outreach in Jharsuguda district, which has positively impacted more than four lakh people. Through sustained interventions such as Mobile Health Units, specialized medical camps, and targeted health awareness programmes, the company continues to strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery and contribute to inclusive and sustainable development in Odisha.
