Reinforcing its
commitment to nurturing young minds and strengthening the foundations of early
childhood education, Vedanta Aluminium has distributed school bags and water
bottles to more than 2,300 children across 175 Vedanta Nand Ghars in Jharsuguda
district. The initiative aims to support learning readiness among children aged
two to six years while encouraging greater participation in pre-school
education and holistic development.
Vedanta Aluminium,
India’s largest producer of aluminium, undertook the large-scale distribution
drive across villages in Jharsuguda district, with company leadership
personally participating in the outreach programme. The learning kits are
designed to equip young children with essential educational resources and
foster enthusiasm for learning at an early age.
Implemented under the
aegis of the Anil Agarwal Foundation and in collaboration with the Ministry of
Women and Child Development, Nand Ghar is the flagship community development
initiative of the Vedanta Group. The project reimagines traditional anganwadis
as modern centres for women and child development, equipped with smart learning
tools and sustainable infrastructure.
Vedanta Aluminium has
established 250 Nand Ghars across Jharsuguda district, benefiting more than
4,000 children through improved access to early learning, nutrition and basic
healthcare services. Powered by solar energy, these centres feature smart TVs,
interactive learning modules and BaLA (Building as Learning Aid) concepts,
where walls, floors and learning spaces are designed to promote activity-based
education. Regular interventions, including immunisation support, health
awareness programmes and caregiver engagement initiatives, further contribute
to holistic child development.
Speaking on the
initiative, C Chandru, CEO – Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda, said, “At Vedanta
Aluminium, we believe that meaningful progress begins with investing in our
communities. Through Vedanta’s Nand Ghar project, we are strengthening the
foundations of learning and development for young children to facilitate their
long-term success.”
Vedanta Aluminium continues to support these centres through school-readiness programmes, periodic health and nutrition campaigns, and regular community outreach efforts aimed at maximizing participation. These initiatives help build strong educational foundations while empowering women to play an active role in the development of their families and communities.
In FY26, Vedanta Aluminium’s community development initiatives in Jharsuguda positively impacted more than seven lakh people across 61 villages, promoting sustainable and inclusive growth. Through focused interventions in education, healthcare, livelihoods, women’s empowerment, rural infrastructure, and grassroots arts and sports, the company continues to enhance the quality of life in local communities. These efforts are guided by a commitment to shared value creation, ensuring that development remains meaningful, inclusive and enduring.
