JHARSUGUDA, MAY 6, 2026

Vedanta Aluminium’s Jharsuguda unit has reinforced its fly ash management system through a comprehensive framework that combines advanced digital technologies with robust on-ground monitoring. As one of the world’s largest aluminium plants, the unit is focused on ensuring end-to-end handling of fly ash from its captive power facilities in strict compliance with regulatory and environmental norms.

All vehicles transporting fly ash from the plant are equipped with GPS-enabled tracking systems, enabling real-time, end-to-end visibility from loading points to authorised destinations. Transportation is restricted to pre-approved routes, ensuring route discipline and minimising the risk of unauthorised diversion or disposal. The system digitally records every trip, creating a transparent and verifiable audit trail that can also be accessed by government authorities.

This data-driven approach has significantly enhanced operational transparency. Automated capture of vehicle movement logs has reduced reliance on manual record-keeping, while enabling instant detection of deviations. The system supports swift corrective action and strengthens accountability across the logistics chain.

To complement its digital oversight, the company has deployed Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to conduct surprise field inspections across the fly ash transportation network. These teams verify compliance with approved routes, documentation protocols and handling practices, providing an additional layer of independent validation.

The monitoring framework extends across key districts surrounding Jharsuguda, including Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Bargarh. A dedicated helpline (9668972214) has also been introduced to facilitate rapid communication and enable prompt field-level intervention when required. This enhanced on-ground presence has further reinforced discipline among drivers, contractors and supervisors.

By integrating digital tracking with field-level enforcement, Vedanta Aluminium’s Jharsuguda unit has developed a dual-control monitoring system that highlights the role of technology-driven transparency and real-time oversight in ensuring responsible fly ash management within the metals and mining sector.
