Planting over 1,100
saplings and dispersing more than 750 seed balls across Odisha, Vedanta
Aluminium marked Van Mahotsav 2026 with a large-scale afforestation and
biodiversity conservation campaign. Bringing together employees, local
communities, students and grassroots organisations, the initiative reinforced
the company's commitment to environmental stewardship, climate resilience and
responsible growth while expanding green cover across its operational and
community landscapes.
The initiative
brought together employees, local communities, school students and grassroots
organisations in a collective effort to promote environmental stewardship and
biodiversity conservation. Focused on planting native species and supporting
natural regeneration, the programme aims to strengthen local ecosystems,
enhance climate resilience and encourage greater public participation in
sustainable environmental practices.
Observed annually
during the first week of July, Van Mahotsav is India's flagship afforestation
movement that inspires collective action towards protecting forests and
restoring ecological balance. In line with the spirit of the festival, Vedanta
Aluminium organised plantation drives and biodiversity enhancement activities
across its operational and community locations, reaffirming its commitment to
responsible growth and long-term environmental sustainability.
Speaking on the
initiative, Rajesh Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, "At Vedanta
Aluminium, environmental responsibility is an integral part of how we grow and
operate. Our Van Mahotsav initiatives reflect this commitment by bringing
together employees, communities and local institutions to support afforestation
and biodiversity conservation. As we progress on our journey towards Net Zero
carbon emissions, efforts such as these play an important role in enhancing
green cover, strengthening ecosystems and creating lasting environmental
value."
The Van Mahotsav campaign is part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader sustainability agenda aimed at advancing ecological conservation across Odisha through afforestation, biodiversity restoration and community-led environmental action. Among its flagship initiatives is the Mo Gachha Mo Parivar campaign in Kalahandi and Rayagada, which seeks to plant more than one lakh fruit-bearing saplings while benefiting over 30,000 rural families.
Building on its ongoing afforestation efforts that have already added more than 1.2 lakh trees across the region, Vedanta Aluminium continues to partner with local communities, educational institutions and grassroots organisations to enhance green cover, strengthen biodiversity, support sustainable livelihoods and contribute to Odisha’s long-term climate resilience.
