Reinforcing its
commitment to inclusive community development, Vedanta Aluminium has expanded
its assistive support initiative for persons with disabilities (PwDs) in
Kuraloi, further strengthening access to mobility, education, and dignified
living for underserved communities.
Building on the
programme launched in December 2025, the company recently completed the second
phase of the initiative, extending support to 15 additional beneficiaries. With
this expansion, the initiative has now positively impacted 30 PwDs across
Banjari, Kuraloi, Piplimal Gram Panchayats, and Ward No. 17, reflecting Vedanta
Aluminium’s sustained focus on empowerment through accessibility and grassroots
care.
As part of the
initiative, assistive devices including wheelchairs and hearing aids were
distributed in the presence of Sanathan Naik, Sarpanch of Kuraloi Panchayat,
along with ASHA workers and community representatives. The programme
highlighted strong collaboration between local stakeholders and the company in
ensuring last-mile social impact.
Sharing her
experience, Martha Pinga, a 53-year-old resident of Kuraloi village, said,
“With 45 per cent locomotor disability and increasing age, it had become
difficult for me to move around even within my home. The wheelchair support has
made my daily life easier and restored my confidence.”
Another beneficiary, Bhumisuta Kharsel from Bartap village, said the hearing aid support has significantly improved her ability to follow classroom lessons and move safely on roads. “Earlier, I struggled to hear approaching vehicles and understand lessons in class. Now, I can hear better and feel more confident in my studies and everyday life,” she shared.
Vedanta Aluminium remains committed to driving meaningful transformation in its operational areas through focused interventions in healthcare, education, sustainable livelihoods, rural infrastructure, and community wellbeing. By working closely with local authorities and grassroots institutions, the company aims to create long-term socio-economic impact across the region.
