Reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development, Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited, India’s largest aluminium producer, has intensified efforts to expand green cover across Odisha’s Kalahandi and Rayagada districts through an extensive plantation drive in the Sijimali region ahead of World Environment Day.

The initiative marks a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing environmental conservation programme, under which thousands of saplings have already been planted across villages and educational institutions in the region over the past year.

As part of its flagship campaign, “Mo Gachha, Mo Parivar”, Vedanta Aluminium has planted more than one lakh saplings across Kalahandi and Rayagada districts. In the Sijimali belt alone, the plantation drive covered 22 villages and 25 schools spread across five gram panchayats — Sunger, Talambapadar, Nakrundi, Adajor and Sindurghati. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from community leaders, school teachers, volunteers and panchayat representatives, highlighting a collective commitment to ecological preservation.

The initiative aims to strengthen the region’s green cover, foster environmental awareness among students and local communities, and encourage grassroots participation in conservation efforts. By promoting tree plantation as a shared responsibility, the campaign seeks to create a lasting positive impact on the local ecosystem.

Speaking on the company’s sustainability initiatives, Rajesh Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited, said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, sustainability remains central to our vision of creating long-term value for communities and the environment. Through initiatives such as large-scale plantations, biodiversity conservation and community participation programmes, we are committed to nurturing greener landscapes and building climate-resilient communities across Kalahandi and Rayagada. We will continue to work closely with local stakeholders to drive meaningful environmental impact for generations to come.”

The plantation drive is part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader sustainability agenda, which encompasses environmental protection, biodiversity enhancement, water conservation and climate action. Through active community engagement and collaborative environmental initiatives, the company continues to contribute towards building a greener, healthier and more sustainable future for the region.
