Reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development, Vedanta Aluminium marked Van Mahotsav 2026 with an extensive afforestation and biodiversity conservation campaign across its operations in Odisha. The initiative reflects the company’s vision of integrating environmental responsibility into its core business while advancing its Net Zero carbon journey.

Addressing the occasion, Rajesh Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said that environmental responsibility is central to the company’s way of working. He noted that the Van Mahotsav initiative brings together employees, local communities and institutions to strengthen afforestation efforts, protect biodiversity and create long-term environmental value. He added that expanding green cover, restoring ecosystems and promoting native species are critical pillars in Vedanta Aluminium’s roadmap towards achieving its sustainability goals.

As part of the programme, the company planted over 1,100 saplings and dispersed more than 750 seed balls to support natural regeneration. The campaign engaged employees, students, grassroots organisations and local communities, fostering collective participation in ecological conservation while promoting awareness of sustainable environmental practices.

Observed annually during the first week of July, Van Mahotsav serves as India’s flagship afforestation movement, inspiring communities to contribute towards environmental protection. In keeping with the spirit of the festival, Vedanta Aluminium undertook biodiversity enhancement and plantation activities across Odisha, reinforcing climate resilience, ecological balance and long-term sustainability.

The initiative also forms part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader sustainability agenda, which includes large-scale plantation and habitat restoration programmes such as the Mo Gachha Mo Parivar campaign in Kalahandi and Rayagada. The initiative aims to plant over one lakh fruit-bearing saplings, benefiting more than 30,000 rural families. With afforestation efforts that have already added over 1.2 lakh trees across the region, Vedanta Aluminium continues to collaborate with communities, educational institutions and grassroots organisations to expand green cover, strengthen biodiversity, support sustainable livelihoods and build a more climate-resilient Odisha.
