Mahatma Gandhi’s
vision for the development and empowerment of tribal communities is being
realised through KISS, its founder Dr Achyuta Samanta said on Friday while
addressing students on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The birth
anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri
were observed at KIIT and KISS Universities here, with students and officials pledging
to work towards fulfilling their vision of a prosperous and empowered India.
Dr Samanta said
Gandhi continues to command deep respect not only in India but across the world
and urged students to draw inspiration from the ideals, principles and values
espoused by both Gandhi and Shastri.
“Gandhiji’s vision for the development and
empowerment of tribal communities is being realised through KISS,” Samanta
said, highlighting the institution’s efforts to provide education and
opportunities to tribal children and contribute to their holistic development.
On the occasion,
floral tributes were paid to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the KISS campus by
Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, along with senior officials.
Among those present were Prof Saranjit Singh, Vice-Chancellor of KIIT-DU, and Dr Prashant Kumar Routray, Registrar of KISS-DU.
The programme was followed by a rendition of the Ramdhun by KISS students. The celebrations concluded with the distribution of laddus among the students.
