The
Kottavalasa–Koraput Doubling Project has achieved a significant milestone with
the successful breakthrough of the 829-metre Tunnel No. 41-41A between Borra
Guhalu and Karakavalasa stations in the Rayagada Division of East Coast
Railway, officials said.
The breakthrough was
achieved on October 1 with 100 per cent alignment accuracy, marking a key
advancement in the execution of the railway infrastructure project through
challenging terrain.
Tunnel No. 41-41A has
been constructed in a horseshoe shape along an alignment extending up to an
8-degree curve. The breakthrough was completed in the Borra Guhalu–Karakavalasa
block section.
The achievement
highlights the engineering precision and technical expertise deployed in
carrying out major railway construction works in the hilly terrain of the
region.
The latest
breakthrough is expected to accelerate progress on the Kottavalasa–Koraput
Doubling Project, which is aimed at strengthening rail infrastructure and
increasing capacity along the section.
Once completed, the doubling project is expected to enhance line capacity and operational efficiency, besides facilitating smoother movement of freight and passenger trains in the region.
The successful completion of the tunnel breakthrough marks another important step towards the progressive development of the Kottavalasa–Koraput railway corridor.
