In a significant step towards strengthening transparency, accountability and governance in Indian sports, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has invited applications for the appointment of a Chairperson and two Members of the newly constituted National Sports Board (NSB), which will serve as the apex authority for recognition and oversight of National Sports Bodies across the country.

The appointments will be made under the provisions of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026. The Central Government will make the selections based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee constituted under Rule 3(3) of the National Sports Board (Search-cum-Selection Committee) Rules, 2026.

According to the Ministry, eligible candidates should be persons of ability, integrity and standing, possessing knowledge or practical experience in areas such as public administration, sports governance, sports law and other related fields.

The National Sports Board has been envisaged as the central authority responsible for granting board recognition to National Sports Bodies and ensuring their compliance with prescribed governance, financial and ethical standards. The Board is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting good governance and institutional accountability within the sports ecosystem.

The salary, allowances and other terms and conditions of service of the Chairperson and Members will be governed by the provisions of the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026.
