Reinforcing its commitment to
workplace safety, JSW Steel conducted a comprehensive fire safety mock drill
across its Odisha Mining Division, underlining its philosophy that safety is a
deeply embedded culture rather than a mere compliance requirement.
Organised to mark National Fire
Service Week, the exercise aimed at enhancing emergency preparedness and
ensuring that employees are equipped to respond swiftly and effectively during
crisis situations. The drill focused on evaluating evacuation procedures,
testing firefighting equipment, and strengthening coordination among teams
during a simulated fire emergency.
The exercise began with the
activation of the fire alarm, triggering a prompt and orderly evacuation from
designated zones. Firefighting teams demonstrated the effective use of hydrants
and extinguishers, while safety officers closely monitored response times and
adherence to standard protocols. Observers commended the discipline and active
participation of employees, while also identifying minor gaps, particularly in
underground signage and hydrant operations, for further improvement.
Highlighting its sustained
focus on safety awareness, the company’s security department noted that regular
fire safety training sessions are conducted across operations. So far, 54 such
sessions have been organised, engaging 2,131 participants, including company
officials, ITMS personnel, and contractual workers.
The mock drill was successfully executed by the security team, reflecting JSW Steel’s proactive approach to fostering a safe and resilient working environment across its mining operations.
