In a major push to grassroots sports development in the Northeast, NTPC Bongaigaon has signed a ₹13.28-crore memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Mizoram State Sports Council (MSSC) to establish an archery academy at Lengpui in Mamit district of Mizoram. The initiative, signed on October 8 under NTPC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, aims to create a dedicated training facility to nurture young talent and provide aspiring archers with access to professional coaching, modern equipment and structured opportunities to compete at higher levels.

The project, involving a financial commitment of ₹13.28 crore (₹1,328.11 lakh), will be implemented over three years as an infrastructure-related CSR initiative. It seeks to strengthen the state’s sports infrastructure and create a platform for identifying and training promising archers, particularly among school and college students and young athletes from Mizoram and neighbouring areas.

The MoA was signed in the presence of Mizoram Sports and Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, Mizoram State Sports Council Secretary Henry C. Lalrawnkima and NTPC Additional General Manager (Human Resources) Amit Kumar Asthana, besides other officials of the State government.

The proposed academy will focus on systematic coaching, regular practice and technical skill development to prepare athletes for competitions at the district, State and national levels. By providing dedicated infrastructure and essential training resources, the facility is expected to encourage wider participation in archery and help young sportspersons pursue competitive opportunities.

The Mizoram State Sports Council will implement the project and be responsible for establishing, operating and maintaining the academy in accordance with the agreed framework. NTPC Bongaigaon will provide financial assistance and monitor progress through periodic reviews and assessments.

Beyond the creation of physical infrastructure, the initiative is intended to provide a sustained framework for grassroots sports development and talent identification. It is expected to help emerging archers hone their skills, gain competitive exposure and pursue opportunities at higher levels, while contributing to the growth of archery in Mizoram.

The collaboration also underscores the role of public sector enterprises in supporting sports and youth development through CSR initiatives. By investing in training facilities and talent development, NTPC Bongaigaon aims to expand opportunities for young people and contribute to long-term community development in the Northeast.

The project marks another step in NTPC Bongaigaon’s CSR outreach in the region, with a focus on youth empowerment, community assets and inclusive development. Through its partnership with the Mizoram government and the MSSC, the company seeks to help build a stronger foundation for archery and enable young athletes to pursue their sporting ambitions.
