The Odisha Government
has decided to provide completely error-free new textbooks to students of
Classes I to VIII at the earliest after errors were detected in the newly
introduced books for the 2026–27 academic session, School & Mass Education
Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Dr. N. Thirumala Naik announced on
Wednesday.
Addressing the media,
Dr. Naik said the State Government has taken the issue with utmost seriousness
and, under the direction of the Chief Minister, has initiated measures to
ensure that students receive thoroughly revised and error-free textbooks
without delay.
He informed that a
committee headed by the Development Commissioner was constituted on the Chief
Minister's direction to investigate how the errors had occurred and identify
those responsible. Acting on the committee's recommendations, the Government
has already initiated necessary action and will take further action wherever
required.
"The Hon'ble
Chief Minister has viewed the issue with utmost seriousness and has directed
the department to provide completely error-free textbooks to all the students
as early as possible," Dr. Naik said.
He added that all
identified errors are being comprehensively reviewed and verified in
consultation with subject experts. The revised versions of the textbooks will
soon be uploaded on the School & Mass Education Department's website as
well as the OSEPA website to invite suggestions and feedback from academicians
and the general public.
After examining the
feedback received, the Government will finalise the revised textbooks and
ensure their early distribution to students across the State.
To prevent any disruption in classroom teaching until the corrected textbooks are printed and supplied, Dr. Naik said teachers will be provided with corrected content for use during classroom instruction.
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary reiterated that the Government is committed to ensuring that every student receives accurate, high-quality learning material and that all necessary steps are being taken to restore confidence in the newly developed textbooks.
