Eminent lyricist, author and
communications strategist Prasoon Joshi has been appointed Chairman of Prasar
Bharati, India's public service broadcaster, by the Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting.
Widely acclaimed for his exceptional
contributions to literature, advertising and cinema, Joshi brings a rich blend
of creative vision and strategic communication to the role. His appointment is
expected to infuse fresh energy into Prasar Bharati as it navigates rapid
technological change and evolving audience preferences in the digital era.
Congratulating him, Union Information
and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described Joshi as a "rare
creative spirit" whose work reflects India's cultural ethos and
contemporary aspirations. He expressed confidence that under Joshi's leadership,
Prasar Bharati would gain renewed purpose and a vibrant creative direction.
Joshi previously served as Chairperson
of the Central Board of Film Certification since 2017 and has held top
leadership positions at McCann World Group India and Asia Pacific. He is also a
trustee of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.
Established under the Prasar Bharati
Act, 1990, Prasar Bharati oversees All India Radio and Doordarshan, two of
India's most influential broadcasting networks. With its expanding digital footprint,
including the Waves OTT platform, the public broadcaster continues to play a
pivotal role in informing, educating and connecting millions across the nation.
