Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) on Thursday celebrated two decades of operations in India, marking a journey defined by steady expansion, product innovation, and deepening customer trust in one of the world’s largest two-wheeler markets.

A wholly owned arm of Suzuki Motor Corporation, SMIPL entered India in 2006 with motorcycles such as the Suzuki Heat 125 and Suzuki Zeus 125, before strengthening its presence with the launch of the popular Suzuki Access 125 in 2007. Over the years, the company has built a diversified portfolio spanning daily commuters, premium scooters, and high-performance motorcycles.

Today, Suzuki’s India journey stands on a strong scale, with over 10 million two-wheelers produced, a nationwide network of 1,240 touchpoints, and partnerships with more than 200 suppliers. The company exports Made-in-India models to 77 countries, underlining India’s growing role as a global production hub.

Speaking on the milestone, Kenichi Umeda said, “Marking 20 years of start of production in India is a significant milestone for all of us at SMIPL. This journey has been made possible by the trust and support of our customers, dealer partners, suppliers, and employees, who have stood by us at every step. Through gradual expansion of our product portfolio, sustained investments in manufacturing, and focus on quality and reliability, we have steadily scaled our presence in India.”

He added that the company’s “One-by-One” philosophy — focused on delivering the highest quality and customer experience — has helped build a robust ecosystem rooted in trust and collaboration.

SMIPL’s growth story has been anchored in a well-rounded product lineup. While the Suzuki Access 125 helped shape the 125cc scooter segment, models like the Suzuki Burgman Street redefined the premium scooter category. The sporty Suzuki Avenis further strengthened its urban appeal.

In the motorcycle segment, performance-focused offerings such as the Suzuki Gixxer series, adventure tourer Suzuki V-Strom SX, and global icons like the Suzuki Hayabusa have expanded Suzuki’s footprint across categories.

This product momentum translated into key milestones — from reaching one million customers in 2012 to surpassing five million units in 2020, and now hitting the 10 million production mark in 2026.

Built around its ‘By Your Side’ brand philosophy, Suzuki has invested in customer engagement beyond products — focusing on dealership experience, after-sales support, and experiential initiatives. The company’s partnership-led model has also enabled steady growth for dealers and suppliers, while fostering long-term value creation.

Looking ahead, SMIPL is aligning its growth with sustainability and emerging mobility trends. The company has already entered the electric mobility space with the Suzuki e-Access and introduced flex-fuel technology through the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 FFV, compatible with E85 ethanol blends.

It is also laying the groundwork for a second manufacturing facility at Kharkhoda, signalling continued investment in India.

Umeda noted that Suzuki’s future roadmap will follow a “multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality,” integrating diverse fuel and powertrain solutions suited to Indian conditions.

Backed by its parent’s global legacy and strengthened by local manufacturing, Suzuki Motorcycle India’s two-decade journey reflects a blend of global expertise and domestic relevance — positioning it for the next phase of growth in a rapidly evolving mobility landscape.
