In a fresh push to
accelerate household adoption of rooftop solar, TP Western Odisha Distribution
Limited (TPWODL) has launched its ‘Solar Rath’ outreach programme in Baragada,
taking information on clean energy and the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar:
Muft Bijli Yojana directly to communities.
The Solar Rath was
flagged off by Aditya Goyal, Collector & District Magistrate, Baragada, on
September 19 at the Collectorate Campus. The initiative follows the launch of
TPWODL’s Solar Rath awareness programme in Sambalpur by Member of Parliament Dharmendra
Pradhan and marks the expansion of the campaign across western Odisha.
The mobile awareness
initiative will travel from Baragada town through Rengali Camp, Attabira,
Saranda, Lahanda, Godbhaga, Tora, Bheden and Thuapali, reaching villages,
residential neighbourhoods, marketplaces and other public spaces.
At each stop,
consumers will have an opportunity to interact with TPWODL’s outreach team and
understand key aspects of rooftop solar adoption, including eligibility,
government subsidies, application procedures and installation.
Speaking at the
launch, Aditya Goyal, Collector & District Magistrate, Baragada, said, “The
Solar Rath is a meaningful effort to take awareness about rooftop solar and the
PM Surya Ghar scheme directly to the people. When consumers receive clear
information about the benefits, subsidy and process, it becomes easier for them
to understand whether rooftop solar is suitable for their households. Such
community-level initiatives can help build wider participation in clean
energy.”
Adding a grassroots
dimension to the campaign, TPWODL’s ‘Solar Sanga’ (Solar Buddy) will engage
with consumers and provide guidance on rooftop solar adoption. The company’s
‘Solar Didi’ initiative, comprising women SHG members and grassroots solar
champions, will also undertake door-to-door outreach and community interactions
to make information more accessible to households.
The Solar Rath campaign seeks to move beyond conventional awareness drives by bringing practical information and consumer guidance closer to households. Through direct community engagement, TPWODL aims to help consumers understand the rooftop solar adoption process and explore the benefits available under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
TPWODL, a 51:49 joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, is responsible for electricity distribution and retail supply across western Odisha. The company serves more than 2 million consumers across nine districts, covering a distribution area of approximately 48,000 square kilometres.
