Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has emerged as the country’s second-largest exporter of goods from Special Economic Zones (SEZs), with its Jharsuguda SEZ in Odisha contributing US$3.5 billion in exports during FY2025-26. The company’s exports accounted for approximately 6 per cent of India’s total SEZ goods exports, underscoring the growing role of Indian manufacturing in the country’s global trade ambitions.

The milestone comes at a time when services continue to dominate India’s SEZ export landscape. According to the latest trade figures compiled by the Export Promotion Council for EOUs & SEZs (EPCES), services accounted for more than 60 per cent of India’s combined SEZ exports, highlighting the complementary contribution of services and manufacturing to the country’s international trade.

Vedanta Aluminium exports to customers in more than 60 countries, including markets across Europe, the United States, Japan and Southeast Asia. Demand from these markets — many of which enforce stringent quality, environmental and compliance standards — reflects the company’s manufacturing capabilities and its ability to meet the specifications required by global automotive, aerospace and industrial customers.

Commenting on the milestone, Rajesh Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “This achievement is a testament to the consistent quality of our aluminium and its ability to meet the stringent standards demanded by global markets. As India’s SEZs play an increasingly vital role in the country’s trade story, we remain committed to expanding our capabilities and contributing to the nation’s ambition of becoming a global manufacturing and export hub.”

Vedanta Aluminium’s export portfolio spans its range of primary and value-added aluminium products, including billets, wire rods, rolled products, primary foundry alloys and ingots, as well as its low-carbon ‘Restora’ aluminium range. These products cater to critical applications across the automotive, aerospace, electrical, construction and packaging sectors, as well as emerging areas such as renewable energy, electric mobility, artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centres.

India’s SEZs recorded approximately US$134.4 billion in combined goods and services exports between April and December 2025. Services accounted for around US$84.5 billion, or nearly 63 per cent, while goods exports stood at approximately US$49.9 billion, or about 37 per cent, according to the latest available figures.

The export data highlights the expanding role of SEZs as platforms for both globally competitive services and manufacturing. Vedanta Aluminium’s position among India’s leading SEZ goods exporters underscores the increasing contribution of the country’s metals and manufacturing sectors to India’s evolving export ecosystem.
