“Artificial Intelligence will help
farmers maximise profits by providing advance information on crops,” Deputy
Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said on Saturday, underlining Odisha’s
push to integrate cutting-edge technology into agriculture to raise farm
incomes and improve productivity.
The remarks came during a high-level discussion at Lok Seva Bhavan, attended by Commissioner-cum-Secretary Sachin Ramachandra Jadhav and
Director of Agriculture Shubham Saxena, following the State Budget that
increased allocation to agriculture and allied sectors by 12.3 per cent. Singh
Deo expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for the enhanced
outlay, describing it as a decisive step towards strengthening farmers’
economic security and accelerating sectoral modernisation.
Officials reviewed the deployment of AI-driven tools aimed at delivering
real-time, field-level advisories to farmers. These technologies are expected
to enable better crop planning, optimise input usage, reduce losses and enhance
market preparedness, thereby improving profitability, particularly for small
and marginal cultivators.
A major highlight of the meeting was a presentation by agri-tech platform Krishivaas, which showcased a smartphone-based application capable of crop monitoring, early disease prediction and temperature-based alerts. The platform is designed to provide personalised, actionable insights directly to farmers, narrowing the gap between scientific research and on-ground practices
The State is also undertaking digital crop surveys through satellite imagery to generate accurate and timely data on crop coverage and health. This initiative is expected to strengthen policy planning, streamline crop insurance assessments and enable faster response during natural calamities.
