Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday
said that the Economic Survey of India reaffirms Odisha’s steady march towards
inclusive and sustainable growth, as the state posts a sharp acceleration in
economic expansion and rising per capita incomes. Citing the Economic Survey of
India 2025–26, tabled in Parliament by Union Finance Minister Nirmala
Sitharaman, the Chief Minister said Odisha’s Net State Domestic Product has
increased from ₹6.99 lakh
crore in 2023–24 to an estimated ₹7.90 lakh
crore in 2024–25, registering a robust growth rate of 13.04 per cent.
Sharing the
figures, Majhi said the improvement in per capita NSDP to ₹1,68,966 reflects not just
headline growth but tangible gains in income levels and living standards for the people of the state. He underlined that the latest data captures the
outcome of sustained policy focus on stability, productivity and inclusion,
even amid a challenging global economic environment.
In a post on
X, the Chief Minister highlighted the structural strengths supporting Odisha’s
growth story, placing agriculture at the heart of the state’s development
pathway. He noted that Odisha has emerged among the top three
sunflower-producing states in the country, underscoring diversification within
the farm sector and improved value realisation for farmers. According to Majhi,
agriculture continues to act as a strong foundation for rural incomes while
supporting allied activities and agro-based industries.
The Chief
Minister also pointed to deepening financial inclusion as a critical enabler of
growth, with bank deposits in the state rising to ₹5.83 lakh crore. This expansion
in deposits, he said, reflects growing household savings, improved access to
formal banking and greater capacity for investment across sectors, ranging from small enterprises to large infrastructure
projects.
Majhi said
Odisha’s fiscal position remains resilient, providing the government with the
capacity to sustain investments in infrastructure, education and social
welfare. He observed that continued capital spending is strengthening
connectivity, logistics and urban infrastructure, while targeted outlays in
education and skill development are helping prepare the workforce for emerging
opportunities.
Highlighting
social indicators, the Chief Minister said progress in education outcomes and
poverty reduction demonstrates the government’s emphasis on inclusive
development. He added that growth is being aligned with social advancement to
ensure that economic gains translate into improved quality of life across
regions and communities.
Reiterating
the government’s priorities, Majhi said the focus going forward will be on
converting macroeconomic growth into higher incomes, quality employment and
better opportunities for people across the state. He emphasised that Odisha’s
development strategy aims to balance fiscal discipline with growth-oriented
spending, positioning the state for sustained expansion while ensuring that the
benefits of progress are widely shared.
