Calling for a united
effort to build a prosperous and progressive Odisha, Hari Babu Kambhampati,
Governor of Odisha, urged people to take a collective pledge to shape a
developed state as it moves towards the centenary of its formation in 2036.
Addressing the
gathering at the Odisha Parba–2026 in New Delhi on Sunday, the Governor said
the milestone year of 2036 offers a historic opportunity not only to celebrate
Odisha’s achievements but also to work together to build a stronger, inclusive
and forward-looking state while preserving its rich cultural heritage.
He noted that the
centenary of Odisha’s formation will mark a significant chapter in the state’s
historical journey and should inspire citizens across the world to contribute
towards shaping a vibrant and developed Odisha. Emphasising the importance of
collective participation, the Governor said the moment calls for renewed
commitment to ensure that the state continues to grow while safeguarding its
traditions and values.
Expressing happiness
over attending the festival, the Governor said it was a matter of great pride
and joy for him to be part of the celebration in the national capital. He
described the annual event as an important platform that beautifully showcases
the spirit, consciousness and cultural richness of Odisha. Over the years, he
observed, the festival has evolved into a unique gathering where art, culture,
heritage, entrepreneurship and the shared identity of Odias living across the
globe come together.
Referring to this
year’s theme, “Culture and Nature,” the Governor said it reflects the unique
character of Odisha where cultural heritage and natural beauty exist in
harmony. Through exhibitions of handicrafts and handlooms, performances of
classical and folk dances, traditional music, culinary traditions and
intellectual discussions, the festival offers visitors a vibrant glimpse into
the living traditions and rich legacy of the state.
The Governor
congratulated the Odia community in New Delhi for successfully organising the
festival and praised their dedicated efforts in promoting Odia culture,
heritage and identity at national and global levels.
Highlighting the civilisational depth of Odisha, he said the state’s identity is deeply rooted in the philosophy of Jagannath, whose message of equality, inclusiveness and universal brotherhood has inspired generations. He also paid tribute to eminent personalities who shaped Odisha’s intellectual and cultural landscape, including Madhusudan Das, Gopabandhu Das, Fakir Mohan Senapati and Gangadhar Meher.
The Governor further said that while preserving its rich heritage, Odisha is steadily emerging as a hub of education, innovation and economic opportunities. With immense potential to contribute to India’s growth story, he added, the state is poised to play an increasingly significant role in the nation’s journey of progress.
