Power restoration in cyclone-ravaged southern Odisha has reached an impressive 99.28 per cent, with electricity supply fully restored in six districts, the state Energy Department said on Monday.

As many as 17,75,975 consumers have been reconnected to the power network out of a total of 17,88,942 affected consumers following the devastating impact of Cyclone Arnab and subsequent flooding, leaving only 12,967 consumers without electricity as of 8 pm, officials said.

The six districts where power supply has been completely restored are Boudh, Rayagada, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur, marking a significant milestone in the post-cyclone restoration drive.

The restoration drive, being carried out by TPSODL, has also achieved 100 per cent recovery of all 46 affected 33 kV feeders, 130 primary substations and 658 affected 11 kV feeders, reflecting the substantial progress made in reviving the electricity distribution network.

Of the 278 affected power transformers, 277 have been restored, while 56,443 of the 56,706 affected distribution transformers have been brought back into operation.

Restoration work is nearing completion in the remaining two districts. Kandhamal has recorded 99.78 per cent restoration, with only 325 consumers awaiting reconnection, while Ganjam has achieved 98.48 per cent restoration, the department said.

Field engineers and technical teams are working round the clock on a war footing to repair the remaining damaged infrastructure, address localised faults and restore electricity to every affected household at the earliest.

The near-total restoration of power supply, despite extensive damage caused by the cyclone and subsequent flooding, underscores the concerted efforts of utility personnel and ground-level teams to bring normalcy back to the affected regions.

The Energy Department said the restoration operation would continue with full intensity until electricity supply is completely restored across all affected areas.
