Reinforcing
its commitment to community-centric healthcare, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar
organised a comprehensive free health camp followed by a multi-specialty health
awareness session for media professionals in Balasore, engaging over 100
members of the local media fraternity. The initiative was designed to address
the unique occupational health challenges faced by journalists and media
personnel, whose demanding work schedules often place their own well-being at
risk.
The
programme was inaugurated by Dr. Amulya Das, ADMO, Balasore, who lauded the
hospital’s focused approach to supporting the health needs of media
professionals.
Sabita
Sahoo, Chairperson, Balasore Municipality, attended the event as Guest of
Honour and underscored the value of collaborative healthcare initiatives
tailored for the media community.
Adding a
special dimension to the programme, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar launched a
Media Privilege Card for participating journalists, offering them access to
exclusive healthcare benefits as a gesture of appreciation for their service to
society.
The health
awareness session featured insights from a panel of specialists from Manipal
Hospital Bhubaneswar. Dr. Kishore Kumar Panda, Consultant Orthopaedics, addressed
bone and joint health, with particular emphasis on hip replacement and hip
preservation, highlighting early intervention as a key to long-term mobility.
Dr. Sachin
Sekhar Biswal, Consultant Medical Oncology, spoke on the heightened cancer
risks linked to tobacco consumption and stressed the importance of regular
screenings and preventive check-ups.
Dr. Amlan
Tapan Mohapatra, Consultant Neurology, focused on brain stroke awareness,
drawing attention to the critical significance of the “golden hour” in improving
survival and recovery outcomes through timely medical care.
The health
camp was further supported by Dr. Sadashiv Mishra, Senior Medical Officer, who
was actively involved in the clinical assessments.
Throughout
the sessions, experts highlighted how irregular work hours, high stress levels
and limited access to timely healthcare make media professionals particularly
susceptible to chronic health conditions. The discussions reinforced the
importance of preventive healthcare, early diagnosis and the adoption of
healthier lifestyle practices to counter these risks.
Speaking at
the event, Chief Guest Dr. Amulya Das said, “This initiative by Manipal
Hospital Bhubaneswar is a thoughtful and much-needed effort. Media
professionals dedicate themselves to informing society, often compromising
their own wellbeing. Such health camps create awareness and ensure they receive
the care they deserve.”
Echoing
these sentiments, Guest of Honour Sabita Sahoo said, “Media professionals play
a crucial role in public health awareness. This health camp reflects our
commitment to their well-being and to promoting preventive healthcare through
early detection.”
Manipal
Hospital Bhubaneswar reiterated its dedication to strengthening community
health through meaningful outreach programmes and sustained collaboration with
key community groups, including the media fraternity. The event witnessed
enthusiastic participation and wholehearted support from media professionals in
Balasore, whose cooperation contributed significantly to the smooth and
successful conduct of the programme.
