Reaffirming the spirit of
participative democracy and youth engagement, Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) and
the National Service Scheme (NSS), under the Ministry of Youth Affairs &
Sports, Government of India, organised a grand programme to celebrate the 16th
National Voters’ Day at Sanatan Harichandan Degree Mahavidyalaya and Utkal
University of Culture, Madanpur, Bhubaneswar. The event was held to commemorate
the foundation day of the Election Commission of India and to promote electoral
awareness among young citizens.
Aligned with the national theme “My
Bharat, My Vote – Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy”, the programme
witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 1,500 students, along with
faculty members and local administrative officials. The celebration served as a
vibrant platform to inspire young and newly registered voters to recognise
their vital role in strengthening the democratic fabric of the nation.
The programme commenced with the
National Voters’ Pledge, as students and staff collectively reaffirmed their
commitment to democratic values, ethical participation and responsible
citizenship, setting a solemn and inspiring tone for the day.
Delivering the keynote address,
Principal Prafulla Kumar Das traced the evolution of Indian democracy and
underscored the growing role of technology in ensuring transparent, inclusive
and fair electoral processes, while encouraging students to become informed and
active participants in the democratic system.
A special highlight of the programme
was the felicitation of newly registered voters, during which eligible students
were presented with their Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), symbolising
their formal entry into the democratic process and marking an important
milestone in their civic journey.
The event was graced by the presence
of distinguished guests including Shivaji Murlidharrao Kharat, State Director,
MY Bharat Odisha; Sarita Patel, Regional Director, NSS Bhubaneswar; and Sandeep
Rout from Utkal University of Culture, whose insights and encouragement further
enriched the celebration.
The programme concluded with a vote of
thanks, followed by a refreshment session. Overall, the celebration powerfully
reinforced the message that every vote counts and that active citizen
participation is the cornerstone of a strong and vibrant democracy.
