BHUBANESWAR, JANUARY 30, 2026
The Odisha
Legislative Assembly is set to witness a politically and economically
significant phase as the budget session of the Assembly begins on February 17.
This will be the sixth session of the current Assembly and is expected to set
the tone for the state’s development trajectory in the coming financial year.
As per the
provisional calendar released by the Assembly Secretariat, the session will
commence with the Governor’s Address, traditionally outlining the government’s
vision and priorities. This will be followed by deliberations on the Motion of
Thanks and culminate in the presentation of the annual budget for the financial
year 2026–27, a key legislative exercise drawing wide public and political
attention.
Chief
Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to present the state budget on
February 20, an event to reveal the BJP government’s fiscal strategy and policy
focus. The budget is expected to make significant provisions for development
initiatives, infrastructure expansion and social welfare programmes, while
addressing pressing concerns such as economic recovery, agricultural resilience
and disaster preparedness in the cyclone-prone coastal state.
The
provisional agenda outlines a structured course for the session, with the
Governor’s Address on February 17, followed by the Motion of Thanks on February
18 and its discussion on February 19. The budget presentation on February 20
will be followed by official business on February 21. While February 22 has
been earmarked as a no-meeting day, general discussions on the budget are
scheduled for February 23 and 24. The calendar also reflects a pause in
proceedings from February 25 to 28 and no sittings from March 1 to March 8,
indicating a possible adjournment or recess, subject to legislative
requirements.
Assembly
officials have clarified that the schedule remains provisional and may be
revised depending on the pace of debates, legislative priorities and unforeseen
developments during the session.
The upcoming budget session carries added
significance as Odisha continues its push for sustainable and inclusive growth
under the BJP government.
