The process for the
upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR)–2026 of the electoral roll has begun
with the mapping of older voter records, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of
Odisha, R.S. Gopalan, said during a press conference held at the Media Centre
on Friday.
Addressing media
persons, Gopalan explained that as per the directions of the Election
Commission of India, the 2002 voter list will be used as the baseline reference
for the mapping exercise with the 2025 electoral roll. A detailed presentation
on the mapping methodology was made during the conference to inform the media
about the steps being undertaken ahead of the revision process.
The CEO said that
during the mapping exercise, several key details of voters will be matched,
including name of the voter, name of relatives, age or date of birth, polling
station, part number, and EPIC (Elector Photo Identity Card) details. Booth
Level Officers (BLOs) will assist in the process at the field level to ensure
accurate verification and smooth implementation.
To facilitate
transparency and public participation, voters will be able to verify their
information through multiple digital platforms, including the ECINET portal,
the Voter Service Portal, the CEO Odisha website, and the ECINET mobile
application.
Citizens have been
urged to check their names in both the 2002 and 2025 voter lists and share the
necessary details with their respective Booth Level Officers. If a voter’s name
is not found in the 2002 electoral roll, they may still complete the mapping
process by providing the details of their father or mother. In case those
details are also unavailable in the 2002 list, voters may submit the
information of their grandfather or grandmother to establish the mapping.
Gopalan clarified
that no documents or Aadhaar card are required for this mapping process. Once
the Special Intensive Revision begins formally, names will be registered
according to the prescribed procedures of the Election Commission.
The press conference was attended by Additional CEO Sushant Kumar Mishra, Joint CEO Gopinath Kuanr, and Deputy CEO Dr. Laxmi Prasad Sahu, along with other officials of the election department.
The briefing aimed to raise awareness about the upcoming revision exercise and encourage citizens to actively participate in verifying and updating their electoral details.
