Amid rising concerns
over possible power disruptions during the intense summer season, Chief
Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday issued a strong assurance of
uninterrupted electricity supply across Odisha, warning of strict action
against any unannounced power cuts.
Addressing a
gathering at Balianta in Khordha district during the inauguration of three new
Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) grid substations and eight key transmission
lines, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reliable
power supply. “Our government is committed to ensure uninterrupted power supply
during the summer season without any power cut or load shedding. We have
assured this to the people.”
Emphasising
accountability, he added that even in unavoidable situations, electricity
restoration would be swift. “We will not support unannounced power cuts,” he
declared.
Recalling last year’s
performance, the Chief Minister noted that the state had successfully
maintained uninterrupted power supply throughout the summer following
directives to power companies.
Issuing a stern
warning, Majhi said, “If any power cut happens without valid reason or without
announcement, the officials or employees of the power companies responsible for
it will be dealt with strictly. It will be treated as a punishable offence. We
will not compromise on this.”
On the occasion, three advanced substations were inaugurated — the 220/132/33 kV GIS at Balianta, the 132/33 kV GIS at Satyanagar in Bhubaneswar, and the 132/33 kV GIS at SCB Medical College in Cuttack. Developed at an estimated investment of around Rs 600 crore, these projects, along with eight new transmission lines, are expected to significantly enhance power reliability and quality, directly benefiting nearly 22 lakh consumers in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and adjoining areas.
The new infrastructure marks a major step toward strengthening Odisha’s power network and ensuring stable electricity during peak summer demand, bringing much-needed relief to households, industries and essential services.
