“Odisha's rich handloom is a living reflection of our culture, tradition, heritage and identity, providing livelihoods to thousands of weavers while empowering the rural economy,” said Minister of Cooperation, Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts, Pradip Bal Samanta, as Boyanika, the state’s premier handloom cooperative organisation, celebrated its landmark 70th Foundation Day, marking a historic chapter in the annals of Odisha’s cultural legacy.

Inaugurating the celebrations at the ‘Boyanika Exclusive’ branch in Boyan Bhawan on Tuesday, the Minister underscored that Boyanika has evolved into a symbol of trust, reliability, pride, self-reliance, and excellence over the decades. He highlighted that the institution continues to stand tall as a distinguished ambassador of Odisha’s rich handwoven heritage, playing a pivotal role in preserving age-old traditions while ensuring sustainable livelihoods for the weaver community.

Gracing the occasion as Guest of Honour, Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department, remarked that Boyanika’s remarkable seven-decade journey reflects its deep-rooted credibility and enduring public trust. Emphasising the importance of customer engagement and market expansion, she announced a special initiative to commemorate the milestone—an additional 10 percent rebate over and above the existing 20 percent, allowing customers to avail a total benefit of 30 percent on handloom products. This move is expected to boost sales while directly enhancing the earnings and welfare of the weaver community.

Demonstrating strong financial performance, Boyanika recorded an impressive turnover of ₹233.56 crore during the financial year 2025–26. Building on this momentum, the organisation has set an ambitious target of ₹280 crore for 2026–27. The growth strategy is anchored in key focus areas such as retail expansion, digital integration, and innovative marketing initiatives aimed at strengthening market reach and consumer connect.

With a legacy firmly rooted in tradition and a forward-looking vision aligned with modern market dynamics, Boyanika continues to weave an inspiring narrative of pride, purpose, and progress for Odisha’s handloom sector.

Among others present on the occasion were Somesh Kumar Upadhyay, Director of Textiles and Handloom, Odisha; Prakash Chandra Meher, President, Boyanika; Dr. Nivedita Prusty, Managing Director, Boyanika; along with senior officials of the department and the organisation, who collectively celebrated this significant milestone in the institution’s illustrious journey.
