In a decisive push to
strengthen Odisha’s scientific and innovation ecosystem, State Minister for
Science & Technology Krushna Chandra Patra met Union Minister for Science
& Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh in New Delhi to fast-track key projects,
including a proposed Science City in Bhubaneswar and a Space Innovation Hub.
The high-level meeting focused
on aligning Odisha’s regional scientific aspirations with the Centre’s national
missions, laying the groundwork for a robust growth model for the state’s
technology sector. Patra sought central assistance for establishing a
world-class Science City on 100 acres of land already identified on the
outskirts of Bhubaneswar. Envisioned as an interactive and immersive knowledge
destination, the Science City will feature modern exhibits, experiential
learning zones and innovation-driven spaces aimed at igniting scientific
curiosity among youth.
A major highlight of the
discussion was the proposal to create a dedicated Space Innovation Hub to
promote startups and advanced research in space technology. The initiative aims
to leverage the expertise of the Odisha Space Applications Centre (ORSAC) and
premier research institutions such as VSSUT, Burla. The hub is expected to
position Odisha as a frontrunner in satellite data applications and space-tech
entrepreneurship, opening new avenues for research, employment and industrial
growth.
In line with the national
Bio-E3 Policy, both ministers also deliberated on establishing Bio e-Cells in
Odisha. These cells will focus on high-performance biomanufacturing, encourage
eco-friendly technologies and support institutions in translating laboratory
research into commercially viable biotech products. The initiative is expected
to accelerate innovation in biotechnology while strengthening industry-academia
collaboration.
The meeting also covered
broader strategies to promote science-led development across the state.
Minister Patra expressed gratitude for the Centre’s continued guidance and
technical cooperation, asserting that coordinated efforts between the State and
Union governments would be pivotal in transforming Odisha into a leading
scientific and industrial hub.
Dr. Jitendra Singh commended
Odisha’s proactive approach and assured full central support, emphasizing that
the state’s scientific advancement is integral to the larger vision of ‘Viksit
Bharat’. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to providing necessary technical
expertise and financial support to ensure the successful implementation of
these landmark projects.
