The Special Intensive
Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Odisha has reached a major milestone, with
enumeration forms distributed to 99.14 per cent of voters across the state,
reflecting significant progress in the Election Commission’s drive to create
cleaner, more accurate and well-organised electoral rolls.
According to the
office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the large-scale exercise involving
distribution, collection and digitisation of enumeration forms is being carried
out on a war footing to ensure that the electoral database remains updated and error-free
ahead of future elections.
Official figures
available till 6 PM on June 15 revealed that enumeration forms had been
distributed to 3,31,13,184 voters, covering 99.14 per cent of the electorate.
With the distribution phase nearing completion, the administration has now
intensified efforts to accelerate the digitisation of voter records.
So far, digitisation
has been completed for 1,43,16,029 voters, accounting for 42.86 per cent of the
electorate. Election officials said the pace of digitisation would be further
stepped up in the coming days to ensure adherence to the prescribed timeline
set by the Election Commission.
The revision exercise
is aimed at updating electoral rolls by identifying and removing the names of
deceased and shifted voters while ensuring that eligible citizens remain
properly enrolled. Following the completion of digitisation and verification, a
revised and error-free final electoral roll will be published.
Booth Level Officers
(BLOs), who are spearheading the field-level exercise through door-to-door
visits, have been directed to complete the task within the stipulated
timeframe. The Election Commission has fixed June 28, 2026, as the target date
for completing the distribution, collection and digitisation of enumeration forms.
The CEO’s office has
appealed to all eligible voters to extend full cooperation to BLOs and submit
their completed enumeration forms before the deadline. Officials cautioned that
failure to submit the forms within the stipulated period could invite inquiries
and further action under electoral rules governing the inclusion of names in
the voter list, urging citizens to complete the process at the earliest.
