The vibrant spirit of
Raja Parba came alive in Paradip as the Paradip Port Authority (PPA), in
association with Jagannath Lalit Kala Sansad, launched a grand three-day Raja
Mahotsav at Gopabandhu Stadium, blending Odisha’s rich cultural heritage with a
celebration of community unity and progress.
The festival was
inaugurated in a unique and symbolic manner by P. L. Haranadh, Chairman of
Paradip Port Authority, who departed from the traditional ribbon-cutting
ceremony by cutting a giant Poda Pitha, the iconic delicacy of Raja Parba. The
event was attended by Heads of Departments, senior officers, employees,
stakeholders and members of the local community.
Addressing the
gathering, PPA Chairman Haranadh praised the efforts of Capt. A. C. Sahoo and
Jagannath Lalit Kala Sansad for meticulously organizing the festival and urged
people to participate enthusiastically. “The festival we celebrate every year
with great pomp and enthusiasm here in Paradip reflects the grandeur of
Odisha's cultural heritage. There are very few places with such a magnificent
legacy. Festivals are an integral part of our lives and Raja Parba symbolizes
fertility and productivity. It holds immense significance for agriculture, industrial
growth and the overall prosperity of our state,” he said.
Highlighting Paradip
Port’s contribution to national development, Haranadh noted that since 1967 the
port has played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s economy while emerging
as a major driver of Odisha’s industrial and economic growth. He emphasized
that the port has created employment opportunities for thousands and
significantly boosted trade and industry in the region.
Speaking on the
port’s achievements, he said Paradip Port Authority has recorded remarkable
growth over the last five years and recently received a prestigious award from
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in Mumbai.
He further stated that Paradip Port has emerged as the country’s leading major
port in dry bulk cargo handling among ports handling more than five million
tonnes annually, reinforcing its position as one of India’s premier maritime
gateways.
The three-day Raja Mahotsav features an array of traditional competitions, including Raja Doli, Poda Pitha and Raja Pana preparation, poetry recitation, volleyball, Sankha Badana, Hulahuli and other cultural contests. Colourful evening dance and music performances by leading cultural organizations have added to the festive fervour.
With active participation from employees, stakeholders, social organizations and local residents, the Raja Mahotsav stands as a celebration of Odisha’s timeless traditions, cultural harmony and the collective spirit that continues to define Paradip’s vibrant community life.
