The paddy procurement process for the
2025–26 Kharif season in Odisha has entered its final phase, marking a
significant milestone for the state’s agricultural sector. According to the
latest official data, approximately 75,45,381 metric tonnes of paddy have
reached mandis across the state so far, of which 75,20,212 metric tonnes have
already been successfully procured.
Government records show that 18,11,988
farmers have sold their produce during the current procurement cycle. Out of
the total stock collected, millers have lifted about 73,46,226 metric tonnes
from procurement centres, ensuring smooth movement of produce within the supply
chain. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanism has played a vital role in
safeguarding farmers’ incomes, with a substantial ₹22,337.60 crore disbursed so far towards MSP payments and
input assistance.
Bargarh district continues to lead the
state in procurement, registering 7,70,157 metric tonnes in arrivals and
7,69,838 metric tonnes in procurement. Kalahandi follows with 6,43,178 metric
tonnes procured, while Ganjam and Subarnapur have recorded 5,58,012 metric
tonnes and 3,79,045 metric tonnes respectively. Reinforcing transparency and
efficiency in the process, the state government has ensured that payments are
being directly credited to the bank accounts of participating farmers.
A comparison of official data as of March 24 reflects a steady rise in paddy procurement in recent years. Kharif procurement stood at 58,03,664 metric tonnes in 2023–24, which increased to 73,02,782 metric tonnes in 2024–25, and further reached 74,92,893 metric tonnes in the ongoing 2025–26 season. The increase of more than 16 lakh metric tonnes over two years highlights a strong growth trajectory for Odisha’s agricultural sector and signals enhanced stability for the rural economy.
