ROURKELA, OCTOBER 8, 2026

SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has recorded a robust performance in its Pipe Plants during the first half of the current financial year, with production rising 20.2 per cent and dispatches jumping 22.7 per cent over the corresponding period last year.

The Pipe Plants, comprising the Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) and Spiral Welded (SW) facilities, produced 41,334 tonnes of pipes during April-September of FY 2026-27, compared with 34,772 tonnes in the year-ago period.

Dispatches also registered a strong increase, rising to 39,905 tonnes in H1 FY 2026-27 from 32,531 tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year, marking a growth of 22.7 per cent.

The ERW Pipe Plant (ERWPP) emerged as a key driver of the growth, recording a 38.2 per cent increase in production and a 42.3 per cent rise in dispatches during the first half of the financial year. The SW Pipe Plant (SWPP) also maintained positive momentum, with production growing 0.6 per cent and dispatches increasing 5 per cent.

In September alone, the Pipe Plants dispatched around 1,161 tonnes of pipes, further strengthening RSP's supply readiness and market presence.

The performance was supported by close coordination among various departments, including the Central Marketing Organisation (CMO), Production and Planning Control (PPC), Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2), Research and Control Lab (RCL), and Traffic and Raw Material (TRM).

Pipes are among RSP's value-added and niche products and cater to specialised applications across infrastructure, oil and gas, power, irrigation and other sectors.

With production capacity augmentation and sustained growth in output, RSP is positioned to strengthen the market presence of its pipe products while maintaining focus on quality and customer satisfaction.

The first-half performance is expected to help the Pipe Plants respond to evolving market requirements and contribute to SAIL's broader growth in finished steel.
