Eight samples of milk and milk
products have been found substandard out of 88 tested across Odisha, raising
concerns over dairy quality in the state. The information was shared in the
Assembly by Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda
Mallik while responding to a query from BJP MLA Tankadhar Tripathy.
The Minister stated that besides
the state-run OMFED, as many as 22 companies are currently engaged in the milk
and dairy trade in Odisha, including 10 local firms and 12 from outside the
state. The quality of their products is being monitored through regular
sampling and laboratory testing by the Food Safety authorities functioning
under the Health and Family Welfare Department.
According to the data presented
for 2025, the samples were collected from markets across the state and examined
for compliance with prescribed standards. Eight samples failed to meet quality
norms, indicating lapses in adherence to food safety regulations. The
government has reiterated that continuous surveillance and testing will be
carried out to ensure safe dairy products for consumers.
