Asahi India Glass Ltd (AIS), the
country’s leading integrated glass and windows solutions provider, has taken a
decisive step towards clean energy adoption by partnering with Adani Energy
Solutions Ltd (AESL) for a managed hybrid power and energy management
arrangement spanning multiple manufacturing hubs. The strategic tie-up
underscores AIS’s intent to future-proof its operations through sustainable and
reliable power sourcing.
Under the agreement, AESL’s commercial
and industrial arm will oversee the supply and management of around 15.50 crore
units of electricity annually for AIS’s plants located in Bawal in Haryana,
Roorkee in Uttarakhand and Patan in Gujarat. A significant portion of this
requirement—nearly 11 crore units—is set to be met through renewable energy
sources, dramatically reshaping the company’s energy profile.
With this shift, renewable energy will
account for close to 70 per cent of AIS’s total power consumption, a sharp rise
from roughly 30 per cent earlier. The transition places AIS among the
front-runners in India’s industrial sector when it comes to large-scale clean
energy adoption, while also delivering greater predictability in energy costs
and improved long-term supply security through an integrated power management
model.
The environmental impact of the move
is equally compelling. The increased use of green power is expected to cut
carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 72,300 metric tonnes every year, an
effect comparable to planting over 36 lakh trees. Beyond emissions reduction,
the arrangement is designed to enhance operational efficiency by allowing AIS
to focus on manufacturing while AESL manages the complete power value chain,
including optimisation, reliability and cost control under clearly defined
service benchmarks.
The mandate builds on AESL’s growing
presence in the managed energy solutions space, following a similar renewable
energy partnership with RSWM Ltd of the LNJ Bhilwara Group. With an existing
demand portfolio of more than 1,300 MW and an ambitious expansion roadmap, AESL
is positioning itself as a key enabler of India’s industrial energy transition,
while AIS’s latest move signals how sustainability is becoming central to competitive
business strategy.
