Hatsun Agro Product Ltd (HAPL), one of India’s largest private-sector dairy companies, has partnered with the Government of Odisha and State Bank of India to launch ‘Go-Dhan’, an initiative aimed at strengthening dairy farming and improving livelihood opportunities for farmers across the state.

Launched at the OUAT Auditorium here, the initiative seeks to benefit around 6,000 dairy farmers across 15 districts by improving their access to institutional finance, government schemes, modern dairy practices and technology.

The launch ceremony was attended by senior representatives from the Odisha government, banking and dairy sectors, including Secretary, Department of Fisheries & Animal Resources Development, Government of Odisha, Prem Chand Chaudhary, Managing Director of APICOL Shubhranshu, State Bank of India Chief General Manager Rakesh Kumar Yadav and HAPL Chairman R G Chandramogan.

Under Go-Dhan, participating farmers will be supported in areas such as procurement of quality bovine breeds, improved cattle housing, farm mechanisation, animal nutrition and herd health. The programme will also facilitate access to government support and subsidy schemes, including the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY), enabling farmers to access capital for setting up and expanding dairy operations.

Dairy farming is an important source of livelihood for rural households in Odisha, and the initiative is aimed at addressing key requirements for sustainable dairy development, including access to finance, scientific farm management and higher productivity.

“Through the Go-Dhan initiative, we aim to support the establishment of more than 6,000 dairy farms over the next three years in a phased manner,” Chandramogan said.

The initiative is designed to improve farmer incomes, promote scientific dairy farming and develop a sustainable dairy ecosystem in Odisha, he said.

“Hatsun Agro’s focus has always been on dairy farming, a key component of secondary agriculture. Strengthening dairy farming creates a positive impact on primary agriculture by providing farmers with a stable and progressive source of income,” Chandramogan said.

He said the company aims to build a strong dairy value chain in Odisha by producing and procuring milk within the state, while catering to consumer demand in Odisha as well as neighbouring markets such as West Bengal and North Andhra Pradesh.

The initiative, he added, is expected to create opportunities for local farmers while strengthening the regional dairy economy.

Chandramogan expressed gratitude to the dairy farmers of Odisha, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Odisha, APICOL and State Bank of India for their collaboration in the initiative.

“Together, we are committed to transforming Odisha into a dairy-rich state while creating better opportunities, higher incomes and long-term prosperity for its farming community,” he said.

Go-Dhan brings together government support, institutional finance and dairy-sector expertise with the objective of expanding organised dairy farming in Odisha and strengthening the state’s dairy value chain.
