The Odisha government has given in-principle approval for a proposed Satellite Major Port at the Bahuda estuary in Ganjam district, paving the way for further institutional and developmental steps.
The port is proposed
over about 5,005.195 acres of saline land in the Bahuda estuary area.
In a letter, Commerce
and Transport Department Principal Secretary NBS Rajput conveyed the decision
to the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways,
Chairman of the Paradip Port Authority and Managing Director of Sagarmala
Finance Corporation Ltd.
The state has also
approved initiation of the process to form a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)
involving the Paradip Port Authority, Odisha government and Sagarmala Finance
Corporation Ltd for development of the project.
The proposal for a
major port at Bahuda estuary has been under consideration for several years.
The latest approval
is expected to facilitate the institutional arrangements and other subsequent
processes for taking the project forward.
