Kalinga Institute of
Medical Sciences (KIMS) on Monday observed World Heart Day with a series of
awareness initiatives, including a walkathon and mass cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR) training, aimed at promoting cardiovascular health and
creating a pool of trained first responders.
The walkathon
witnessed enthusiastic participation from doctors of the KIMS Department of
Cardiology, faculty and staff members, students and senior officials. The
initiative sought to spread awareness about the importance of heart health and
encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles to reduce the risk of
cardiovascular diseases.
The highlight of the
observance was a mass CPR training programme organised for students of Kalinga
Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), in which more than 500 students
participated.
The training focused
on familiarising the students with the basic steps of CPR, an emergency
life-saving procedure that can be administered when a person suffers a cardiac
arrest and becomes unresponsive or is not breathing normally.
The initiative was
aimed at empowering young people to respond promptly during cardiac emergencies
and provide immediate assistance before professional medical help arrives.
By training a large
number of students in basic CPR skills, KIMS sought to strengthen community
preparedness for cardiac emergencies and underline the importance of timely
intervention in saving lives.
The programme was attended by Advisor to the Founder, KIMS, Dr R N Samanta, Head of the Department of Cardiology Dr Subasish Mishra, Prof Dr Panchanan Sahoo and Dr Ashok Kumar Badamali of the Department of Anaesthesia, among others.
The World Heart Day observance underscored the need for greater public awareness about cardiovascular health and the importance of equipping communities with basic emergency response skills.
