A high-level delegation from Oil India Ltd. on Tuesday met senior Odisha government officials to review the progress of six Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants being developed across the state, signalling renewed momentum in Odisha’s waste-to-energy transition.

The delegation, led by Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Ranjit Rath along with CGM Santanu Kumar Saikia and OGEL representative Rajeev Kumar Tamuli, held detailed discussions with Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development Department of the Odisha Government, at Kharabela Bhawan here.

The meeting centred on project timelines, commissioning readiness and seamless integration of municipal waste streams to ensure reliable feedstock for the upcoming CBG plants. The officials stressed that an efficient linkage between urban waste collection systems and the bio-gas units is essential for the long-term viability of the projects.

Both sides also reiterated that transforming urban waste into clean, renewable fuel is a critical component of Odisha’s larger clean-energy and circular-economy roadmap. The CBG plants, once operational, are expected to reduce landfill burden, improve municipal waste management, cut carbon emissions and create local employment opportunities.

Padhee reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to accelerating sustainable waste-to-energy initiatives across Odisha. She noted that the CBG projects represent more than just an environmental imperative — they also support local economies and contribute to the state’s green growth strategy.

“These projects are vital to our mission of reducing landfill dependency while fostering green energy generation,” Padhee said, adding that the government would extend full support to ensure timely completion.

Oil India officials expressed satisfaction with the progress so far and discussed mechanisms to further streamline coordination with urban local bodies. The six CBG plants form a key part of the company’s broader effort to scale up renewable energy infrastructure in alignment with national clean-fuel goals.

The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to expedite pending processes and maintain close monitoring to ensure the plants move swiftly toward commissioning.
